Leicester City are looking for a goalkeeper with Champions League experience to challenge Mads Hermansen this season. Leicester City’s preparations for the 2024/25 season have been overshadowed by their inability to sign enough attacking players ahead of the Premier League season. While Leicester City have improved their options with the signings of Facundo Buonanotte and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, there appears to be much more work to be done.

Steve Cooper’s side has attempted to sign Matias Soule, who turned down a move to Serie A side Roma, Wilfried Zaha, who appears unlikely to join at this time, Yaser Asprilla, who appears unlikely to join Leicester City, and, most recently, Adam Hlozek. Despite the continuous efforts to add attacking depth, goalkeepers are still being sought, with one man targeted for Champions League experience.

Leicester City are considering a move for French goalkeeper Jean Butez.

The Foxes have identified French and Royal Antwerp shot-stopper Jean Butez as a ‘possible No1’ for Cooper’s side, and he will compete with Mads Hermansen for a place in the squad, according to Sacha Tavolieri on X. The goalkeeper made five Champions League appearances for Royal Antwerp, including a legendary 3-2 home triumph over Barcelona. The 29-year-old also helped his team finish third in the Jupiler Pro League, keeping 12 clear sheets in 30 matches and conceding only 27 goals.

Leicester City must ensure that its transfer priorities are met.

The Foxes have not shone brightly this summer, owing in part to financial difficulties and the departure of key players like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Cooper’s team isn’t much stronger than it was at the end of the 2023/24 season, which raises questions about what they should be focusing on at this point. There is little doubt that goalkeepers will be advantageous to Cooper’s ambitions, but any deal for a shot-stopper must be completed soon, as signing a striker remains Cooper’s most pressing issue.

Butez will undoubtedly be a valuable addition to Leicester City this season, given his extensive experience in both the Champions League and the Europa League. However, if the Foxes go any further without the necessary striker additions, it will come as no surprise if questions about the board’s priorities arise during the transfer window, especially given the recent turn of events, which have left Cooper’s side with few options only days before the Premier League begins.
