The Miami Dolphins are remaining patient with wide receiver Erik Ezukanma, but another injury has sidelined him, which is not ideal while competing for a roster position. Nothing has been easy for EZ-E, as his followers nickname him.

Despite a promising camp during his first season, his NFL career has never quite taken off. Now, the former fourth-round draft pick could be on his last leg. Ezukanma, who was drafted in 2022, has fought ailment after injury, and Omar Kelly reports that he is down again.

Ezukanma has performed better in the rushing game than in the passing game since being drafted. Although he has only caught one ball on two targets for three yards, he has ran five times for 22 yards. It’s not what everyone anticipated from him.

The Dolphins have a talented roster, but Ezukanma’s return to injury raises doubts about whether he’ll make the final 53 and he might not have demonstrated enough to be added to the practice squad. Unfortunately, his injury could be beneficial to other players. The door is much broader for River Cracraft now that Ezukanma is out of the picture, and it might even be open for someone like Anthony Schwartz, who has been working on special teams in camp.

Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Odell Beckham, Jr. hold the first three slots in Miami’s starting wide receiver group, making it predictable. The projected Nos. 4 and 5 receivers are Braxton Berrios and Cracraft, but seasoned wide receiver Willie Snead will also be able to cause a stir. And don’t overlook Malik Washington.

Although Ezukanma’s injury might not spell the end of his Dolphins career, it also won’t provide the organization with any more justification to hold onto him. He is a member of the mid-round wide receiver selection class, which has historically not been successful for the team.
