A former Everton player cleared of child sex charges may return to international football, according to the country’s manager.
It was reported this week that the footballer, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, will not be charged and will face no further action after being apprehended for the offenses in 2021.
The former Premier League player may now return to international football, according to his country’s management.
According to the Sun, the manager informed local reporters that he would have to decide for himself whether he wanted to return to football and play again.
‘If he does, he will undoubtedly be in my plans, assuming he maintains the same standard.
‘We are overjoyed because his name has been cleared; these two years must have been awful for him.’
It is also said that the manager referred to the player as a ‘lovely lad’ and that they ‘felt for him’ during his absence from football.
No additional action will be taken against the player, according to a statement released by the police last week.
“The investigation team and Crown Prosecution Service have been working together and reached the decision that the evidence available at this time does not reach the threshold set out on the Code for Crown Prosecutors,” said a statement released by Greater Manchester Police last week.
“Greater Manchester Police is dedicated to looking into claims in order to get the best results for everyone concerned. We will also keep collaborating with partner organizations to make sure people are supported both during and after investigations.”
After being detained by the police in July 2021, the married player was freed on bond, which was increased around a year ago.
