This year, the Miami Dolphins added wide receivers through the draft and free agency, but they believed reinforcements were required after just one week of training camp. Miami announced the signing of wide receiver Willie Snead IV on Thursday, dismissing defensive lineman Mario Kendricks to make room on the 90-man roster.
Snead, 31, began his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He has since played for the Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, and Las Vegas Raiders before joining the San Francisco 49ers for the last two seasons. Snead has played 133 offensive snaps since the start of 2021, according to PFF. He appeared in four games last year, catching two of three targets for 14 yards. He has caught 281 passes.
The Dolphins may use receiving depth after seventh-round rookie Tahj Washington was placed on injured reserve, and Odell Beckham Jr. opened camp on the physically unable to perform list due to an undisclosed injury.
Miami didn’t practice Wednesday but returns to the field Thursday — eight days before their preseason opener at home against the Atlanta Falcons. All eyes will be on the receiving group, particularly who will step up behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
