In an attempt to decipher the remaining movements made by the Yankees in the lead-up to the MLB trade deadline on Monday night, Feinsand wrote the following:
“I still expect the Yankees to trade for at least one reliever and maybe an infielder, even with the addition of Jazz Chisholm Jr. Luis Rengifo and Tanner Scott, in my opinion, would be the ideal pair for New York.
Rengifo, who is in the middle of his finest MLB season and is batting.300 for the Angels, who are selling at this trade deadline, can play three infield positions and also contribute as an outfielder. Rengifo is under team control for the upcoming season; the Angels will let him go if they can acquire some good prospects in exchange.
For the majority of the season, Rengifo has been outstanding, but since recovering from a wrist injury he sustained early in July, he has recently struggled. Rengifo exerted force.319 right before his injury, and he has batted in each of the last seven games.25 at-bats, allowing only three hits.
Since Chisholm, who made his Major League debut on Monday, is taking over at third base for the Yankees, we can assume that if Rengifo is added, Gleyber Torres, who has struggled this season but is hitting better lately (.317 in 21 games as of Monday night), will likely be replaced.
