Tua Tagovailoa, 26, is under contract with the Dolphins through the 2024 season, the fifth and final year of his rookie contract. However, after leading the league in passing yards and being selected to his first Pro Bowl, Miami held talks about a long-term extension. Tagovailoa has provided an update on the team’s contract extension talks.
After a great year with the Dolphins that included starting all 18 games in both the regular season and the postseason, the product of Hawaii allayed concerns about his durability. Concussion worries dominated the conversation about Tagovailoa throughout the previous offseason. A year later, the quarterback is playing into the reality that the conversation is exclusively on contracts rather than what he worked out this time.
At a football camp he was hosting on Oahu over the weekend, he told reporters, “I’m not telling anyone what I’m doing this offseason.” That, in a sense, is what distinguishes me. Since I’m a really private person, I believe that will remain inside.”
However, Tagovailoa did provide a little more information regarding the ongoing contract negotiations. He said, “They’ve been good.” “I’m leaving that up to my agent, Ryan Williams of Athletes First, for the time being. We’ll talk more about that when the time comes. Right now, my priorities are my family, myself, and honing my trade. For now, there will undoubtedly be exciting days ahead.”
When discussing the matter with reporters during the NFL Scouting Combine, general manager Chris Grier of the team took a similar stand. He admitted, “We’re trying to get something done. “I think Ryan Williams is fantastic. Tua has performed admirably. We’ll see.
