The 30-year-old midfielder moved to the blue side of Merseyside. Melissa Lawley’s contract expired at the end of last season, so we knew she’d be going. The club has now confirmed her new location. Lawley will make a quick move down the block to Everton. The midfielder joined Liverpool Women from Manchester City in the summer of 2019, thus she was there when the club was relegated to the Championship at the end of the season and then helped them climb back out.
Lawley has been a key member of Matt Beard’s midfield in the two years since his return to the top division. She made over 100 appearances for the team throughout her five-year tenure. Beard’s current lineup includes Scouser Missy Bo Kearns, Fuka Nagano, Marie Höbinger, Ceri Holland, and Sofie Lungaard. As the Reds attempt to challenge the top three this season in order to qualify for the Champions League, it will be fascinating to see if Beard brings in any new midfielders to replace her on the wing.
