Alan Shearer has spoken out after Everton’s goalkeeper gave England the lead in the EURO semi-final against the Netherlands. Xavi Simons took the ball from Declan Rice and broke forward, slamming it past the England goalkeeper and into the top corner. According to Shearer, who reported for BBC Sport on July 10, Pickford was helpless because to the quality of the hit. He exclaimed, “Wow.” What a strike. Xavi Simons could not have struck it any better; the shot was so enticing. “It is pinged into the right-hand-side of the net and Jordan Pickford had no chance, Simons takes the ball of Declan Rice and it then opens up.”

Everton star Jordan Pickford concedes opener against Netherlands The Toffees’ number one has always been in good form for England, and the 2024 European Championships have been no exception. Despite the Three Lions’ lack of success thus far in the competition, the goalkeeper has done a lot of things correctly. This included making a fantastic penalty save in the shootout against Switzerland, allowing Gareth Southgate’s team to advance to the semi-final.

Pickford will be disappointed to have conceded so early against the Netherlands, but he had no choice given the quality of Simon’s shot. England levelled the game with a Harry Kane penalty after Denzel Dumfries kicked him inside the area. Southgate can be delighted with his team’s performance, despite falling down early on. Pickford, an Everton player, has not had much to do but is always someone the Three Lions can rely on when they need him.
