Amadou Onana is ready to join Aston Villa in a club record transfer from Everton, according to John Percy. On Wednesday (17 July), a Telegraph correspondent told X that the Villans had secured a £50 million agreement for the Belgium midfielder, with all financial details agreed. He said that the 22-year-old is scheduled to have a physical with Villa this weekend after a little hiatus following his participation with the Red Devils at Euro 2024. Everton make the right choice in Amadou Onana. Everton alleviated some of its PSR problems by selling Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey before the financial statements deadline on June 30.

However, it was always expected that one high-profile departure will occur this summer, partially to ensure that they are in a better position in terms of PSR in the future, and also to perhaps reinvest some monies to improve Sean Dyche’s squad ahead of the new season. Given the likelihood of selling excellent young English centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, most fans would agree that cashing in on Onana was the lesser of the evils.

There is no doubt that Onana has a high ceiling in terms of potential, but he has been frustratingly inconsistent for the Toffees. A move to Villa Park grants him his dream of playing in the Champions League, while Everton receives a sizable price and will most certainly be able to fend off any attempts by other clubs to sign Branthwaite.

Overall, it appears that the relocation benefits all parties involved.
