Following England’s tragic 2-1 Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain, Liverpool fans flocked to social media to insult Everton player Jordan Pickford’s’sweet tears’. Liverpool fans celebrated Jordan Pickford’s tears when the England goalkeeper was photographed crying following the Three Lions’ 2-1 Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain. Pickford and his teammates were defeated by the tournament’s top team in Germany, with Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal scoring in the second half to help Spain win the European Championship. Following Williams’ opening, Cole Palmer equalised for Gareth Southgate’s side, but England were left with too much to do late on after Oyarzabal’s 86th-minute winner.

The game’s score could have been much higher if England’s Pickford had not performed so well in goal. In the second half, Everton’s goalkeeper twice denied teenage phenom Lamine Yamal, making two fantastic stops to stop the soaring winger. When England’s goal was under attack from a bombardment of Spanish crosses, Pickford provided a presence in the Three Lions box, coming out to punch the ball clear and give his team some breathing room.

However, when the final whistle blew, England had suffered once more international tournament misery, losing another European Championship final at Wembley Stadium, just as they had three years before. While the majority of fans were left misty-eyed by the agonizing defeat to Spain, a part of Liverpool’s fandom reveled in witnessing Pickford cry, apparently still bitter with the injury he inflicted on Reds defender Virgil van Dijk that resulted to the Dutchman injuring his ACL back in 2020.

One Reds fan wrote, “I need Jordan Pickford tears.” Another wrote, “Is there a sweeter sight in football than Jordan Pickford crying?” A third replied, “Get in there. “Any reds who wanted this d***head to win should take a good look at themselves.” A fourth commented, “JORDAN PICKFORD CRYING, MY NIGHT IS COMPLETE LMAOOOO.”

Despite the abuse from the red half of Merseyside, there were plenty of Pickford defenders on social media who lauded the Three Lions’ goalkeeper for his performances for England this summer in Germany. “One of England’s best performers yet. “He will always have critics and be mocked, but he kept England in that tournament,” one defender commented. Another stated, “Without Jordan Pickford in goal, it would have been a five or six-goal defeat. A national hero. A third person tweeted: “Jordan Pickford is the only man who can keep his head held high yet again, world class keeper.” And a fourth wrote, “Pickford is at least one shining light in the England team.”
