The centre-back spoke after working with the new manager for a week in pre-season, having previously been coached by him in Liverpool’s academy. The new manager, Steve Cooper, aims to build on the club’s foundations rather than revolutionize it. Cooper, who succeeded Championship-winning manager Enzo Maresca, is now in charge of guiding City to the Premier League. But after last year’s success, he’s not going to abandon the plan.

Conor Coady’s verdict comes after a week of pre-season training with the new boss. According to the City centre-back, Cooper wants to stamp his own mark on City’s style without having to start over. “My first impressions of the new gaffer and the coaching staff have been brilliant,” Coady informed the club. “We’re working on a number of new projects with the new manager. It’s been amazing to hear his ideas and how he wants to play.

“It’s important to understand that he doesn’t want to make significant changes, but he does want to put his own stamp on it.” We just want to start immediately.” For Coady, this is not his first time working with Cooper. Cooper spent five years working across various age levels in Liverpool’s academy, eventually coaching the Under-18s for a year before joining the FA. The manager’s tenure on Merseyside coincided with Coady’s ascension through the ranks at Liverpool. “He’s a real hands-on manager,” the defender explained. “He’s always wanting to chat to the lads. He’s always with the boys.

“I’ve known him since I was growing up in Liverpool. His passion for the game is palpable when you’re out there, and you can tell it resonates with the players from how he comes across in training. “He has been brilliant.”
