Fabrizio Romano provided an ideal contribution to an unexpected agreement.

Barcelona’s attitude emerges as Everton agree to Amadou Onana’s sale to Aston Villa Barcelona will not try to derail Amadou Onana’s move to Aston Villa after agreeing a £50 million deal with Everton, according to Fabrizio Romano. The reliable journalist, writing on his own X account (13 July), indicates that the Belgium star is near to Aston Villa after personal terms were negotiated.

Barcelona has been linked with a move for the midfielder to improve their squad [Mundo Deportivo, 2 July], but they will not look to step in because their primary focus is on signing Nico Williams from Athletic Club. Everton poised to sell Amadou Onana for a club record price. For much of the summer, Everton was anticipated to sell Onana in order to balance the books, and Aston Villa felt confident in their ability to buy him as early as a month ago [TEAMtalk, 15 June]. So it’s no surprise that they’ve reached an agreement on the midfielder, and at a price that many expected him to be available for.

Barcelona was also interested, but the money was always going to be an issue, and a deal seemed increasingly doubtful when Sean Dyche guided the squad away from relegation. However, with a club the stature of Barcelona, they can never be ruled out, which is why it was critical to know what their plans were with Onana before making any final decisions. However, it appears like they have made their decision, and Aston Villa will win the contest. Everton doesn’t care where he ends up as long as they get the money they wanted for him, so this is a win-win situation for everyone involved.
