A new club is set to hijack the Everton agreement. Alan Myers

Aston Villa has warned of a possible transfer hijack for Everton’s star player. Amadu Onana Alan Myers insists it is “always possible” that another club will beat Aston Villa to the signing of Everton star Amadou Onana. Villa are close to signing the £50 million-rated midfielder [Fabrizio Romano, July 14], but several clubs have previously expressed interest.

Myers, a transfer expert, stated on Saturday (July 13) that anything is possible until the deal is finalized. He added that Villa has been interested in Amadou Onana for a long time and would be surprised if he does not end up with them.

Onana joined the Toffees from Lille in August 2022 for £33 million and has played 72 games, scoring four goals. Despite interest from Arsenal and Manchester United, Villa’s offer matches Everton’s appraisal [Liverpool Echo, June 14]. Villa are looking to sign a new midfielder after selling Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £42.35 million last month. Onana, who began his career at Anderlecht’s youth and has since played for Hamburg and Hoffenheim, fits the bill.

Villa are set to sign Jaden Philogene from Hull for £18 million on a five-year contract, bringing him back to Villa Park less than a year after leaving. Everton’s perspective is that Onana will not be around for the final season at Goodison Park. However, there is still plenty of time to bring in a replacement.
