According to The Boot Room, Everton still expect to trade Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer after agreeing to sign Amadou Onana to join Aston Villa. According to the online news site, the striker has refused a new contract at Goodison Park and wishes to go [Graeme Bailey, 4 July], with Newcastle among the interested parties, despite talks falling apart earlier this summer over personal issues [The Athletic, 29 June].
West Ham, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, Chelsea, and Manchester United have all considered a move for the 27-year-old, but no contact has been made with the Toffees, who expect a trade to be completed during the transfer season because he is in the final year of his contract. Everton plans to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer. Sean Dyche made it his job last season to get Calvert-Lewin back to full health and make him a reliable player again, and he succeeded. The 27-year-old appeared in 38 games this season, scoring eight goals, but the manager persisted with him despite a 23-game drought in front of goal.
So Calvert-Lewin’s choice to leave Goodison Park and repay some of that loyalty is regrettable, but not surprising. Iliman Ndiaye has already joined the club, and with Beto and Youssef Chermiti also available for the manager to choose from, Calvert-Lewin’s absence will not be as felt as it may have in the past. If the club can get a good price for him, the aim is that money will be reinvested back into the squad, both in attack and elsewhere, and the team will profit.
