According to Alan Myers, Everton are working on negotiations to add a new winger and defense during the summer transfer window. Sean Dyche has already signed Tim Iroegbunam and Iliman Ndiaye in the first few weeks of the transfer window, but the Toffees are unlikely to sign Hull City’s Jaden Philogene [The Mirror, 12 July].
Despite appearing to have suffered a setback, Sky Sports correspondent Myers believes the Blues are still looking to reinforce at both ends of the pitch, but he concedes it is unclear where they will attempt to add next. Responding to a fan on X (12 July) who asked: “Hi Al, are we looking for two wingers? And what about the defenders? “RB, LB, and CB.” Myers clarified: “I think atm there could be a winger and a defender being worked on, other than that anyone’s guess.” Are Everton close to making any new additions during the summer transfer window at Goodison Park?
While the start of the transfer window has been extremely positive for the Toffees, there is still a lot of work to be done to prepare Dyche’s team for the new season, with a few more acquisitions still required. Much will depend on who leaves Goodison Park in the coming weeks, as talk continues to swirl about the futures of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Amadou Onana, who have all been linked with moves elsewhere.
Everton are almost certain to sign a winger, as Dyche’s only choices at the moment are Jack Harrison and Dwight McNeil. Finally, the Blues manager currently lacks a viable backup plan. Similar is true at fullback, where the Blues rely on Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman as Nathan Patterson recovers from injury.
Hopefully, Myers is correct, and Everton is looking to recruit in both areas.
