Everton have been dealt a blow when one of their transfer targets turned down a move to Goodison Park this summer. Toffees are creating a new style on their side. After winning Premier League survival under Sean Dyche despite two point deductions last season, the Toffees are looking to strengthen their squad this summer. They have already confirmed another loan for Jack Harrison, and they have strengthened their midfield with the signing of Tim Iroegbunam from Aston Villa in a deal worth over £10 million.
They have also added firepower to their squad with the signing of Marseille striker Iliman Ndiaye, who scored four goals for the Ligue 1 team last season. “Iliman adds versatility to our attacking options and strengthens our forward line as we look to build on the progress we made as a team last season in terms of chances created” , Sean Dyche commented. “He is still young but has experience at European and international level and we feel he will be a really positive addition to our squad.”
Despite their promising start to the summer, Everton are not having it all their own way. Midfielder rejects Everton move. The Toffees have been dealt a blow after Wilfred Ndidi rejected down a transfer to Goodison Park this summer. The Leicester City midfielder’s £75,000-a-week contract was slated to expire this summer, leaving him a free agent heading into the new season.
Manchester United has previously expressed interest in the 27-year-old, who was described as “incredible” by former manager Brendan Rodgers during his tenure in the Premier League with the Foxes, and built a reputation as one of the greatest defensive midfielders in the league. “He’s a fantastic player. “The offensive players get the credit, but he does the dirty work,” Rodgers stated in 2019. “He has this game-playing brain that detects danger and always finds himself there. His challenge timing is excellent, and he ranks among the best in terms of ball recovery.
“When you’re playing a pressing game, you need someone like Wilf. His passing is also fantastic; he’s usually smiling. Everton were interested in acquiring his services this summer and even made an offer to sign him ahead of the new season, but they were disappointed. That is because the Nigerian has decided to stay at the King Power Stadium beyond this summer, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that Ndidi would sign a new three-year contract with Steve Cooper’s side, but his new contract will include a release option.
Dyche’s side would not be the only one compelled to go elsewhere, with Romano revealing that five bids were made for Ndidi, all of which he turned down. Ndidi’s decision derails what could have been a fantastic coup for the Toffees this summer, given the club’s limited budget.
