Everton FC transfer news: Their quest for a defender could take them to a former Tottenham Hotspur player. Everton are looking for a centre-back this summer, and former Tottenham star Davinson Sanchez might be a potential candidate. Everton now has only three senior centre-back options after losing Ben Godfrey to Atalanta. Both James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite are the top choices, while Michael Keane, who played sparingly last season, has only one year left on his current contract.
As a result, there have been reports of a move for defenders in recent weeks. According to one Turkish media site, Everton’s proposal for ex-Spurs defender Sanchez, who recently won the Turkish Super Lig with Galatasaray in his debut season, was denied. According to Sporx, their €18 million (£15 million) approach was rejected because they valued the player at roughly €25 million (£21 million), with Galatasaray aiming to sign FC Nordsjaelland defender Adamo Nagalo.
Not only is he a league champion, but he will also face Argentina in the Copa America final, alongside Colombia. After starring at Ajax, he played over 200 games for Tottenham, including starting in the Champions League final against Liverpool in 2019. He made 17 starts last season and has played every minute in the Copa America thus far.
It would be a wise investment, but it would put the Tarkowski/Branthwaite combination in jeopardy because Sanchez will want to be a consistent starter. And his figures deserve universal respect. He was in the 94th percentile for blocks and 82nd for interceptions while also being a force in the opposing box. He was ranked in the 96th percentile for shot-creating actions and the 91st for predicted goals, indicating that he would be a valuable addition to Sean Dyche’s squad in both categories.
The most intriguing aspect is his ability to carry the ball in defence, something Tarkowski and Branthwaite are not known for. He is strong on the ball and rates high in progressive passes and carries, and he would give depth to their defense, which was the fourth-best in the league last season.
At 28, he provides experience and quality, and he would be coming off one of his best seasons yet, regardless of the Copa America final result. Having three top-tier defenders to cycle among will help them maintain their performance levels while also allowing them to advance deeper in cup competitions, and it would undoubtedly be a wise decision.
