Everton are attempting to hijack Ipswich’s pursuit of Hull winger Jaden Philogene, talkSPORT understands. The Toffees have agreed a £16 million fee and believe Philogene prefers to transfer to Goodison Park. Crystal Palace are also interested in the former Aston Villa player, whom Ipswich are hoping to sign this summer. The Tractor Boys had planned a double swoop at Hull, with Philogene due to join Jacob Greaves in a £35 million transfer. However, Everton may have snuck into the gathering with the intention of stealing Philiogene right under Ipswich’s nose.
TalkSPORT reported earlier this summer that Everton were interested in signing Philogene. Sean Dyche is desperate for more firepower following a poor season in front of the net. Only Sheffield United scored less goals than the Toffees previous season, and Philogene would add to Everton’s attack after a successful Championship campaign with Hull. The 22-year-old made headlines in February when he scored a stunning goal in a 2-1 win over Rotherham.
Fans dubbed it the ‘goal of the century’ when the forward left a defender for dead before scoring an incredible rabona finish. Philogene scored 12 goals for the Tigers in the Championship last season, helping them finish just outside the play-offs. He also had six assists. Everton have already been busy this summer, buying Tim Iroegbunam from Villa for £9 million last month after being impressed with the 20-year-old midfielder.
That transfer was followed by Jack Harrison’s return from Leeds on another season-long loan. Liverpool are also expected to announce the permanent signing of former Sheffield United star Iliman Ndiaye from Marseille. talkSPORT understands that the Ligue 1 club hopes to reclaim the majority of the £20 million they paid the Blades in 2023.
