Player prepares to join with Everton after rejecting offer elsewhere.

Everton’s efforts to get Wilfred Ndidi on a free transfer may have received a boost when he rejected a contract offer from Sevilla. That is according to Estadio Deportivo, which claims the midfielder’s wage demands have made a move to the Spanish club problematic at this time. Ndidi is presently a free agent after his contract with Leicester expired, and has yet to decide where he will head next. Leicester have attempted to recruit him to a new contract for the club’s return to the Premier League, and numerous other suitors have also made offers to him.

Everton is one among them, with many rumors over the last few months indicating that they are interested, and it was revealed near the end of last month that they were putting up stiff competition for his signature. Sevilla is one of the other clubs interested in the midfielder, and Estadio reports that they made a contract offer that was promptly rejected. The Spanish club ‘tried to really go’ for the footballer, giving him a contract for €1.5 million per season and a prorated signing bonus spread out over the course of his contract.

Ndidi, on the other hand, rejected the proposition because it represented a significant decrease from his previous annual salary of €4.5 million at Leicester. He wants to keep it, or perhaps improve on it, therefore Sevilla’s offer was turned down. According to Estadio, he represents a ‘impossible goal’ for Sevilla, and other associated clubs such as Real Betis or Barcelona may struggle to sign him due to his salary demands. Thus, Everton may have a clearer path, however whether they are willing to provide such wages remains to be seen.

They’ve been anxious to decrease their pay in recent years, and it’s unlikely that after allowing Andre Gomes go this summer due to his high wages, they’d suddenly want to offer Ndidi similar terms. They are, however, significantly better capable of meeting the midfielder’s expectations than their Spanish counterparts, which may allow them to move ahead in this race.
