Everton ‘target’ player valued £67 million.

Wilfred Ndidi has spent the last seven years with Leicester City. Wilfred Ndidi’s contract with Leicester City has officially ended. The midfielder’s contract with the Foxes expired on June 30, making him a free agent, with Everton reportedly interested in signing him.

Ndidi has been at the King Power Stadium for seven and a half years, having arrived from Genk for £17 million in January 2017.

Ndidi was a member of the Leicester team that won the FA Cup in 2021. Even though the Foxes were relegated from the Premier League in 2022-23, the Nigeria international stayed with the club. He was instrumental in Leicester’s rapid promotion back to the top level after winning the Championship. Ndidi scored six goals and six assists in 36 matches.

The Foxes have offered the 27-year-old new terms, but he has yet to sign them. Ndidi revealed earlier this summer that he is ready to fresh challenges.

He told completesports.com: “It’s great to be back in the Premier League after being relegated, but struggling back to the EPL is something we don’t want to do again. I believe morale is strong, expectations are high, and we must ensure we do not return to the Championship. It’s a difficult spot to play. If a good opportunity presents itself, I will not hesitate to try my luck elsewhere, but for the time being, I will stay a Leicester City player.

Ndidi was linked with a £50 million transfer to Aston Villa in 2022. However, then-Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers insisted:

“He’s worth much more than that.” Rodgers went on to say, “A player of his skill and mentality, of course, you want to keep him, but once you have him, he will always draw interest. However, he appears to be at ease in this location. I know he’s moved into a new home and appears extremely pleased. He’s a delight to deal with, and hopefully he’ll be at the club for many years.”

Last week, Football Insider revealed that Everton is ‘hot pursuit’ of Ndidi.
