Everton has been significantly more market-savvy and cautious since Kevin Thelwell joined the club. After all, he immediately recognized their precarious financial situation and took proper action to fix it. After navigating a PSR-sanctioned campaign, he and the club will be hoping that the upcoming season is free of such turmoil. And, with a few significant sales already completed, this is more of an expectation than a wishful thinking. Ben Godfrey and Lewis Dobbin have already left Goodison Park with little opposition, but something tells me that things may not be as straightforward with Neal Maupay, one of Thelwell’s rare failures.

Neal Maupay offers an update on his Everton future. Maupay, who was interviewed live on talkSPORT earlier this morning (02/07, 8:42 am), was candid and frank regarding his Everton future. After all, he has struggled to make the desired effect since signing in the summer of 2022, spending the whole most recent Premier League season on loan with Brentford.

He is the furthest thing from a Sean Dyche player and surely has no place on his team, but this recent revelation may surprise many. Maupay stated, ‘I think it’s quite straightforward. I was on loan at Brentford last season. They had an alternative. They have not stolen it yet. They have till the end of June. I’ll be back at Everton next week. Everton could capitalize on Neal Maupay. Brentford did not activate their buy option under Maupay’s loan contract, but it should not preclude them from returning for the Frenchman.

Especially given their seeming wealth, with £35 million discussions for Archie Gray underway before Tottenham Hotspur stepped in. The Toffees certainly do not need Maupay, and with Everton also adding Iliman Ndiaye, his relevance is diminishing. There is no place for him in Dyche’s squad, and this summer represents a watershed moment in his career. He could either stay at Goodison Park, as he has just announced his want to return, and continue as someone unlikely to be deployed.

Or he might aggressively seek an exit, providing Everton with some much-needed extra finances after a summer in which Kevin Thelwell has been surprisingly active. The outcome of this drama is still to be determined, but Maupay is an unpredictable figure. His future remains unknown, but his position outside of Dyche’s plans is certain.
