Aaron Epia sent a great parting message to Eveton after sealing his move to Newcastle United. The 16-year-old defender was recently on trial with the Magpies, having played as a substitute in under-18s matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United. Epia was offered the opportunity to extend his stay on Merseyside, but he chose to relocate to Tyneside.
In an Instagram selfie, Epia wrote: “I want to thank all the staff and players at @everton that have helped support my development over the last 7 years, I’ve had a great journey.”It was a difficult choice to make, but I believe the time has come for me to find a new challenge. I wish the club all the best in the future.”
One notable reaction to the tweet came from Blackburn Rovers midfielder Rory Finneran, who left a clapping emoji. Interestingly, Epia responded with the eyes emoji, implying that the Republic of Ireland youth international is also on the verge of joining. Newcastle are said to be interested in signing Finneran, who made his Blackburn debut at the age of 15 years, 10 months, and eight days after coming on as a substitute in an FA Cup match against Cambridge United last January.
The Magpies already have a strong Irish representation in their program, with Alex Murphy, Reece Byrne, and Cathal Heffernan among those who have joined in the last two years.
