Michael Golding, a Chelsea midfielder, has agreed to join Leicester City for £4 million, according to Football Insider sources. Golding, 18, has only made one senior appearance and spent the majority of last season playing for the Blues’ academy sides. A move to Leicester is now anticipated to be completed within the next 24 hours, once medical exams and other formalities are completed. He has committed to a four-year deal with the Premier League club.
This comes after Chelsea reportedly agreed to recruit Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester, having already secured new manager Enzo Maresca. Michael Golding agrees four-year Leicester City agreement as Chelsea exit is confirmed. Golding made his senior debut in January’s 4-0 FA Cup victory over Preston and was included to the matchday squad for the EFL Cup defeat to Middlesbrough three days later.
He also got a taste of senior football when Chelsea’s Under-21s played Northampton in the EFL Trophy, where he scored and assisted in a 2-2 tie. His skills in the Chelsea academy drew plaudits both at Stamford Bridge and beyond, since he was capable of playing any midfield role, whether defensive or attacking.
Golding has represented England at all age groups, from under-15s to under-18s, and is also eligible to represent the Republic of Ireland, having done so once at the under-16 level. PSR issues have emerged at both Leicester and Chelsea this summer, with the financial deadline of June 30th being a critical day for both teams. A estimated £30 million cost for Dewsbury-Hall’s transfer to Chelsea would aid Leicester’s finances, but the £4 million spent on Golding will contribute to the Blues’ desire to sell.
