Wilfred Ndidi’s new contract verdict

Wilfred Ndidi, a Super Eagles midfielder, has reportedly rejected down a new contract extension with Leicester City, despite rising interest from Premier League clubs and Barcelona. After Mauricio Pochettino was fired, Enzo Maresca moved to Chelsea, prompting the Foxes to choose Steve Cooper as manager. According to Caught Offside, the 27-year-old versatile midfielder has rejected another contract offer from Leicester City, indicating that he intends to quit the club when his current contract expires in June.

Several high-profile teams, including Barcelona, Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, Sevilla, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle, West Ham, and Aston Villa, have reportedly expressed interest in signing Ndidi on a free transfer. Leicester made every effort to keep Ndidi, but the club must now prepare for life without the seasoned defensive midfielder. Ndidi, originally from Genk, wants to return to the highest level and hopes to play for a club in the UEFA Champions League next season. The Nigerian midfielder played an important role in Leicester City’s successful season, helping the Foxes gain promotion from the Championship to the Premier League after missing nearly two months due to injury.

Unless something changes in the next three days, the Nigeria international will become the second Super Eagles player to leave the King Power Stadium this season, after Kelechi Iheanacho announced his departure last month. Ndidi joined Leicester City in 2017 and will be missed after years of valuable service to the club.
