‘Difficult’ owner claims as Steve Cooper Leicester City verdict is delivered.
Former Leicester City striker Alan Smith believes the club is “in safe hands” with Steve Cooper. Cooper is prepared to lead the team back into the Premier League after signing a three-year contract to follow Enzo Maresca and take over at King Power Stadium. He has lost no time in collaborating with City’s management on a strategy to strengthen his squad for their return to the top flight. The 44-year-old has recent experience bringing a club into and then maintaining its Premier League status, having done so with Nottingham Forest. Cooper guided them to promotion from the Championship, followed by a 16th-place performance in the 2022/23 season, when Leicester was relegated.
That was his only complete season in charge of Forest, until owner Evangelos Marinakis replaced him with Nuno Espirito Santo. “I think it’s a good appointment from Leicester to appoint Steve Cooper,” Smith told Prime Casino. “I believe he is a good manager. “It was difficult for him at Forest. I believe it is quite difficult under the owner (Evangelos Marinakis). Maybe Nuno (Espirito Santo) is discovering this as well, but he did an excellent job getting Forest back into the Premier League and keeping them there in their first season. I believe he is a talented coach.
“I believe Leicester is in safe hands there. I think they complement each other. I think it’s a great appointment.” Want free food delivery, unique discounts, free music streaming, and access to some of the best sports films being produced?
