Leicester City will face a severe double points deduction, according to reports.

Leicester City are expected to lose two points next season as a result of their financial difficulties, according to Football Insider. Leicester were punished in March for failing to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability criteria (PSR) for 2022-23, and they face a points loss. According to sources, the club is now expected to commit a further breach in 2023-24 as they prepare to submit their accounts on June 30.

The recent promotion bonuses awarded to the squad have upped their spending after Enzo Maresca helped orchestrate a quick return to the top division. According to Football Insider, Leicester received £9 million in compensation after the Italian manager left for Chelsea, although this is unlikely to cover their losses. It is now increasingly likely that two points will be deducted from the King Power next season, assuming no significant player sales occur in the next days.

Leicester might face a two-point deduction due to PSR concerns. Leicester has had a difficult few months as they await word on whether they would face a points reduction after declaring £89.7 million in losses for 2022-23. However, this has had little effect on the pitch, as they won the Championship last season, securing their first-ever return to the Premier League.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has told Football Insider that the team will likely receive an update on their projected points deduction next week. According to The Telegraph, Leicester could now face a record-breaking 15-point deduction if they are found guilty of the violation. That might be followed by another points deduction later in the season, as they are certain to violate the PSR regulations again in 2023-24, with clubs only allowed to lose £105 million over three years. Following his recent appointment as Maresca’s replacement, Steve Cooper will be in charge of navigating the ship at the King Power.
