Bad Decision: Jose Mourinho ‘approves’ transfer to sign Everton forward for’more than’ € 20 million

Everton is in talks to sell Beto to Fenerbahce, according to sources. Fotomac claims that the Turkish heavyweights want to sign the striker for more than €20 million. Beto just joined the Blues from Udinese last summer for approximately £21.5 million. He spent the majority of the 2023-24 season behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the pecking order, but scored six goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

And after just 12 months at Goodison Park, it has been reported that the Portuguese could leave. Fenerbahce is looking for a new centre-forward to replace Michy Batshuayi, who has yet to sign a new deal despite suggestions he may join bitter rivals Galatasaray. That prompted sporting director Mario Branco to broaden his search, and he chose Beto. Branco is said to have been talking to Everton ‘for a while’. Jose Mourinho was named head coach of the Istanbul club earlier this summer and has ‘approved’ the signing of the 26-year-old.

Everton may already have Jarrad Branthwaite’s replacement, Victor Lindelof.

The Toffees have already signed two players: Jack Harrison on another season-long loan from Leeds United [Fabrizio Romano, 21 June] and Aston Villa prospect Tim Iroegbunam. In addition to these incomings, a couple of Toffees players have been linked with moves away from the club during the summer window. Jarrad Branthwaite stands out among them. The defender had a successful debut season with Everton in 2023/24, ranking among the team’s best performers.

Manchester United has been the most firmly linked with Branthwaite, but a shambolic initial offer was correctly rejected, and it appears that a compromise will be required before another proposal can be made. With this in mind, if Sean Dyche loses his best defender during the summer window, he will need to find a successor as soon as possible, and he may already have one in the form of a Red Devils defender.
