Liverpool and Everton have had a passionate rivalry for many years, and it is unlikely to end soon. Given their relative on-field performances, the former has received the majority of the bragging rights over the years. Liverpool has consistently challenged for trophies and competed in Europe, while the Toffees are struggling to avoid Premier League relegation. Last season, the blue half of Merseyside barely made it through, thanks to Sean Dyche’s leadership. Despite being fined eight points for financial infractions, Everton finished in 15th position, an impressive result given the circumstances.
Everton makes a bid for Liverpool target Yankuba Minteh. They will now be eager to return to their peak performance and, more importantly, to a position where they can compete with their bitter opponents once more. One way Dyche can accomplish this is to recruit new players to Goodison Park this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, Everton has already made an offer for Newcastle United’s Yankuba Minteh in the region of £30 million. The move for the ‘outstanding’ winger follows interest from Everton’s local rivals Liverpool, where Minteh played under Arne Slot last season. The 19-year-old Gambia international played the season at Feyenoord, where he scored 11 goals and contributed six assists.
Will Liverpool and Everton compete for the Newcastle man? Minteh has yet to play in the Premier League for Newcastle, having been promptly loaned out after arriving from Odense BK last summer. Importantly, his previous appearances in the Champions League and Europa League provided him with vital knowledge. The winger is definitely someone Slot knows well, but it remains to be seen whether the Dutchman is eager for a reunion at Anfield.
Slot may be tempted to look to his previous club and even the Eredivisie for fresh faces at Liverpool this summer, but he is hesitant to do so considering the criticism Erik ten Hag received for bringing such players to Manchester United. Minteh is no longer an Eredivisie player now that he has returned to the Magpies, thus a deal for the teenage winger could still be pursued.
Now that Liverpool has returned to the Champions League, they will surely be able to compete for the world’s best players. Last season’s third-place performance under Jurgen Klopp means the Reds are back in the spotlight, not only on the pitch, but also in the transfer window. The opportunity to compete in Europe’s best league should tempt players to come to Anfield, as Arne Slot will require a large and quality group if he is to bring success to the club. He has only recently been unveiled on Merseyside, but he will have been planning for such success for a long time, having watched Reds footage in recent weeks.
Meeting several of his new players will have to wait due to their continued international commitments at Euro 2024 and Copa America. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia speaks out on the future after the Liverpool inquiry. Slot might want Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this summer, with Liverpool able to sign him if he becomes available. According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool has inquired about the possibility of signing the winger, who is presently playing for Georgia in Euro 2024.
