Everton are interested in acquiring Jayden Oosterwolde, but they will not be pushed into a decision by other clubs, according to Caught Offside. According to the outlet’s website on June 21, the Toffees are “monitoring” the Fenerbahce left-back’s position, as are West Ham and Serie A club Napoli. The Hammers have apparently already talked with the Dutchman’s agent, but this will not put pressure on their Goodison Park colleagues to take any unscheduled action. Fenerbahce, who recently recruited Jose Mourinho as manager, are claimed to have no plans to transfer the 23-year-old this summer, but would be “seriously tested” by bids of €25 million [£21.1 million]. West Ham are also vying for the Everton target.

Offers of that size have been difficult for the Toffees for some time, but following a flurry of transfer activity that included signing Jack Harrison on a second loan [Fabrizio Romano, 21 June] and a permanent move for Aston Villa midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, it appears that the situation has improved. The sale of Lewis Dobbin in the opposite way may have solved possible profit and sustainability concerns ahead of 30 June [The Athletic, 21 June], while the scheduled departure of Amadou Onana may provide the club with enough funds to make further transactions.

There looks to be action being taken to protect against the potentially necessary sale of Dominic Calvert-Lewin [Football Transfers, 21 June], thus there may yet be significant movement in both directions during this transfer window. Vitalii Mykolenko is Sean Dyche’s de facto top left-back and has largely matured into a reliable option.

However, the manager saw fit to employ 38-year-old Ashley Young and versatile centre-back Ben Godfrey on the left at times last season, so it is not surprising that he is open to recruiting a new player in that position. Godfrey’s departure is another possibility this summer after he declined offers to extend his contract amid interest in Serie A [HITC, 11 June], and if he is sold along with others, the funds may be available to pursue interest in Oosterwolde, who established himself as a regular last season with 27 league appearances.

In the last three years, he has moved from the Eredivisie with Twente to Parma in Serie B, then to the Turkish Super Lig, and there is certainly a desire to add another move this summer.
