Everton are desperate to sell one of their key players this summer and are hoping that a strong Euro 2024 performance will spark interest, according to journalist Alan Nixon. With the Premier League’s PSR deadline approaching on June 30th, Everton are keen to ensure compliance. It has been suggested that they will need to make a significant sell to help balance the finances.
Manchester United are interested in signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, but the club would prefer not to sell the centre-back if possible. Amadou Onana, a Belgian midfielder, is one player they want to move on. Everton are said to be desperate to sell Onana and are hoping that a strong Euro 2024 performance will raise interest in him. Everton have struggled to find suitors for Onana despite a £50 million asking price, which may need to be slashed.
A club competing in next season’s Champions League made an enquiry about Onana. The midfielder will be hoping to make an impression at Euro 2024 in the coming weeks. Former Barnsley, Everton, and Blackpool midfielder signed by Stockport County Stockport County have signed former Barnsley midfielder Callum Connolly. After leaving Blackpool at the end of the 2023/24 season, the 26-year-old was free to sign elsewhere. He spent three years at Bloomfield Road, making 108 appearances after moving from Everton.
Connolly also counts Barnsley among his former clubs, having spent a loan spell at Oakwell while learning his trade at Goodison Park. After signing a contract in Stockport, he will now play for Edgeley Park. Stockport manager Dave Challinor said: “To sign someone with Callum’s character, adaptability, and experience, having spent more than half of his career in the Championship, is a fantastic coup for the club.
“Versatility alone arguably doesn’t do justice to his case; he can play anywhere in a back four or five, as a defensive midfielder or as an 8, making him a manager’s dream in terms of squad dynamics. He’s previously worked with members of the backroom staff who were all in accord about his potential impact on our group, so I’m excited to work with him.
“He had a poor back part of last season from his perspective, and I know how much he’s looking forward to a new beginning and incentive to really go on and get back to the heights he was at earlier in his career. He comes in at a wonderful age, with his prime years ahead of him, and I’m confident he’ll help our team as we take on the exciting challenge ahead of us.”
Stockport’s director of football, Simon Wilson, said: “Callum brings excellent experience and versatility to our group. Players like Callum are gold dust because they can play multiple positions at a high level, which will aid us over the course of a 50-game season when we face various selection dilemmas or challenges from opponents. “He has previously worked with our team, and his character references from them and others are of the greatest standard. We are happy to welcome him to our group and look forward to seeing him in action.”
