The DAILY POST claims that Leicester City has offered Wilfred Ndidi a new two-year deal. The Foxes are anxious to keep Ndidi after their return to the Premier League. Ndidi’s current contract expires at the end of this month. Leicester City stated last week that they are in negotiations with the Nigerian international about a new contract. According to the Leicester Mercury, the former Premier League champions want to keep the player at the King Power Stadium for another two years. However, the financial terms of the new contract offered to the defensive midfielder were not divulged.
Ndidi joined Leicester from Belgian Pro League club KRC Genk for a reputed £15 million in 2017. He has made 273 appearances in all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 17 assists.
Leicester have identified Graham Potter as their top choice to replace Enzo Maresca as manager, but are also considering other candidates such as Steve Cooper. Potter has been out of work since being fired by Chelsea in April 2023 after less than seven months.
Leicester are without a manager ahead of their Premier League return after Maresca resigned to join Chelsea at the beginning of the month. Despite his disappointing time at Stamford Bridge, Potter’s reputation remains high as a result of his efforts at Brighton. Potter has taken his time since leaving Chelsea, most recently speaking with Brighton after garnering attention from Dutch club Ajax.
Leicester want a forward-thinking coach like Maresca. Cooper was let go by Nottingham Forest in December and has been linked with a variety of positions, most recently turning down an offer from Burnley following Vincent Kompany’s exit because he wants to work in the Premier League. Leicester are back in the top flight after winning the Championship on their first attempt following relegation, but their financial situation remains precarious. The Premier League punished the club with violating profitability and sustainability regulations, and they may be forced to sell key players like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall before the season begins to help with compliance.
