Leicester City is approaching one week without a manager in charge of the team. Enzo Maresca officially left for Chelsea last Monday, and since then, the chances on who will succeed him have shifted dramatically. Even before Leicester’s former manager was revealed as leaving, a slew of names were floated in the same breath. However, only a few of these can claim to have been the ‘favorite’ for the now-vacant position.
This title was originally awarded to Carlos Corberan of West Bromwich Albion. The Spaniard has led both his present club and Huddersfield Town to the Championship play-offs in recent years, giving him legitimate recognition in the East Midlands. However, reports of conversations with Steve Cooper surfaced, and the Welshman’s presence pushed him up the odds ladder at the expense of Corberan, who has faded away in the next Foxes manager market. According to Sky Bet’s most recent odds, the former Nottingham Forest manager is currently leading the way.
Similarly, Graham Potter has emerged as an appealing prospect, having been described as a ‘priority target’. The 49-year-old, who has been out of work since his last stint as Chelsea manager in early 2023, follows closely after. Among the other possibilities circulated, two Manchester United icons have aroused considerable curiosity. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suddenly risen to prominence, even leapfrogging Corberan at this level. Ruud van Nistelrooy was also one of the early leaders.
Finally, David Moyes, who recently departed West Ham United, has gone from 12/1 to an appealing 3/1 third-favourite option to fill a firefighting role at the King Power Stadium next season.
