Leicester City talks could be stymied

Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi appears to have plenty of options as he considers whether to extend his contract with Leicester City. The 27-year-old’s contract expires at the end of this month. The club said on Friday that they are still in conversation with the player over his future. However, Ndidi has no shortage of admirers for his signature.

According to TEAMtalk, Everton is keeping a watch on the Nigerian as they try to take advantage of the free agent market to prevent another Profitability and Sustainability Rules infringement. He is believed to “figure highly” on the Toffees’ wanted list and is regarded as a potential replacement for Amadou Onana, who is attracting interest from Arsenal and other clubs.

Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell is reportedly putting together a bid for Ndidi in response to manager Sean Dyche’s “request” to sign him. Dyche is described as a “big admirer” of the midfielder. Spanish clubs Sevilla and Real Sociedad are also rumored to be interested in Ndidi. According to reports, other Premier League clubs may try to sign him on a free transfer.

It comes as City are thought to be considering their own midfield reinforcements. They are apparently preparing a £15 million bid for Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff. Ndidi’s City career was rejuvenated in the Championship, as he played in a more advanced role. However, when it comes to upgrading the Foxes’ roster, the midfield appears to be the area that needs the most attention. City are currently down to one advanced midfielder, with Dennis Praet leaving, Yunus Akgun not returning from loan, and Ndidi’s future uncertain. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall may also go. Even if Ndidi stays, it’s possible that he’ll back to a defensive role now that City is performing better.
