According to recent reports, Leicester City’s hunt for a new manager may take an unexpected turn. With Enzo Maresca leaving the club to take over at Chelsea despite promotion, Leicester City are considering a variety of candidates for their vacant manager position. West Brom’s Carlos Corberan appeared to be the early front-runner, but the Baggies’ compensation demands appear to have pushed him down the Foxes’ pecking order. Steve Cooper, Graham Potter, and even former Chelsea manager Mauricio Sarri have all been connected, but according to the newest claims, Leicester are now looking to sign a Manchester United legend.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s name has been ‘offered’ for the Leicester post. According to The Daily Mail, Leicester are aiming to narrow down their management contenders to three or four names. Luton Town manager Rob Edwards is said to have admirers at the King Power Stadium, while former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is a more unusual name being examined. According to the Daily Mail, “Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has not worked since leaving PSV Eindhoven, is another name proposed to the Leicester board, which approached Graham Potter in spring 2023 after sacking Brendan Rodgers.”

This would be a significant risk for Leicester, given that the Dutchman has only managed one senior side, PSV, and his stint was only one season. Van Nistelrooy did win the Dutch Cup in his one year in command, but he left under the cloud of allegations about a player mutiny.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s appointment may see two record-breakers meet. If van Nistelrooy is chosen Leicester manager, he might train Vardy, who shattered his Premier League scoring record. Vardy is already in talks with the club about extending his stay once his contract expires this summer, and the opportunity to work with a former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker could be appealing even at 37. Vardy scored in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in 2015, extending his goal-scoring streak to 11 games and breaking Van Nistelrooy’s record set over two seasons in 2003. This run was part of Leicester’s Cinderella season, in which they defied all odds to win the Premier League title.

This time around, however, the goal is simply to remain in the division. The ‘ideal’ manager who may persuade Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to stay with Leicester City The manager Leicester City hires to replace Enzo Maresca could have a significant impact on whether the club retains Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall this summer. Despite their elevation to the Premier League, Leicester may be forced to sell Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in order to meet Premier League spending regulations, and he is likely to be their most valued asset.

It would be a shame to have to sell their academy graduate, especially given his importance to their promotion with 12 goals and 14 assists in the league. It seems likely that if there is a chance to keep the 25-year-old at the club, Leicester will do all possible to do so, including choosing a manager with a track record of getting the most out of his players.
