According to The Athletic, Leicester City goalkeeper Danny Ward and Daniel Iverson ‘may’ be transferred on this summer. Leicester City may part ways with the stoppers following their promotion to the Premier League. They have advanced from the Championship, along with Ipswich Town and play-off winners Southampton, after won the title under Enzo Maresca last season before his move to Chelsea.
Ward, 30, has been on the King Power Stadium roster since 2018, but has fallen out of favour. Iverson, meanwhile, spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Stoke City. According to The Athletic’s most recent update on the pair, both could be sold permanently during the forthcoming transfer window. Mads Hermansen, who moved from Brøndby IF to England just over a year ago, was the Foxes’ top scorer last season.
Ward, Leicester City’s latest goalkeeper, still has a year left on his contract, which runs until 2025. According to The Sun, Sheffield United expressed interest in him in January, but a move to South Yorkshire did not materialise. The Wales international, who has 40 caps, progressed through Wrexham’s youth divisions. He was then signed by Liverpool as a youth in 2012, after which he went on loan to Morecambe, Aberdeen, and Huddersfield Town to further his development.
He signed a permanent contract with the Foxes six years ago and has made 47 appearances for them in all competitions to date. However, he did not play for them at all last season under Maresca. Iverson is also down the pecking order at Leicester City. The 26-year-old joined for them from Esbjerg in 2016 and has appeared in 17 first-team games since.
He has previously been loaned out to Oldham Athletic, Rotherham United, OH Leuven, Preston, and Stoke City in order to gain experience. What’s next for the Leicester City duo? Cutting connections with Ward and Iverson would free up space and finances in the Foxes’ roster, allowing them to bring in other targets as they prepare for life back in the top flight. Their primary focus right now will be on finding the appropriate management.
