Next season, the top college basketball player will return.

Oscar Tshiebwe, the forward from Kentucky and the unofficial winner of the 2021–22 National Player of the Year award, declared on Wednesday that he will spend an additional year in the United Kingdom.

Tshiebwe merely stated, “I’m back,” in a video that was shared on social media. Let’s get to work.

In an interview with SportsCenter, Tshiebwe, who finished the previous season with averages of 17.4 points and 15.1 rebounds per game, stated that he hopes to boost his NBA draft prospects by playing one more year of college basketball.

“Being a top 10 or top 15 lottery pick was always my goal.” Why am I not there yet, I prayed to God? Thus, God has revealed to me that he is not finished with me here, Tshiebwe remarked. “I will thus return. Next year, I’ll be here for Kentucky. Next year, I’ll be in Kentucky in the blue.

With Wednesday’s decision, Tshiebwe becomes the first Wooden Award winner to return to college since North Carolina’s Tyler Hansbrough in 2008. In addition to the Wooden Award, Tshiebwe garnered multiple other national player of the year and All-American honors. He was also the SEC Player of the Year.
