The LSU Tigers have announced their SEC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.
The 15 head coaches in the Southeastern Conference cast their votes for the 2024 Outdoor Track and Field Awards on Wednesday, honoring exceptional accomplishments from the previous outdoor season. Dennis Shaver, the head coach of LSU track and field, was one of the 13 coaches and student-athletes honored by the conference office.
Shaver led the Lady Tigers to an SEC team title a few weeks ago, their first since 2012. She accomplished this by dominating practically every facet of the sport. The most recent addition to the trophy room represents the women’s program’s 26th SEC championship and its 14th SEC outdoor crown. The victory was attributed to 14 Lady Tigers, with sophomore Brianna Lyston scoring a team-high 16.5 points.
Shaver, in his 20th season as the head coach of the LSU track and field team, recorded his 38th team finish in the top three at an SEC Championship. The Tigers’ gold medal winners at the meet were Lyston and Michaela Rose, and LSU took home ten All-SEC titles.
As the Tigers prepare for the NCAA Outdoor Championships next week, the native of Salina, Kansas, has them ready for another run at the National Championship. With 22 entries, the Lady Tigers lead the country and have four more than the next-best school (Arkansas) going into the meet.
