In his debut season, running back De’Von Achane had an instant impact for the Dolphins, but the team believes he can still contribute significantly to the offense.

At a news conference on Tuesday, head coach Mike McDaniel stated that Achane is having a “important offseason” because he is not solely focused on getting ready for the draft. This means that Achane won’t have to quickly adjust to learning a playbook and honing his professional skills, which McDaniel believes will help Achane in his second season since he’ll be able to understand the scheme better.

According to a team transcript, McDaniel stated, “Year Two, you kind of let everything settle, understand much more of the whys of everything that you do and for him, the more he can understand within the offense, the more ways he can get the ball.” “He produced a lot of balls, some of which I know he feels specifically that there are more out there from the opportunities he had last year. He also demonstrated exceptional ball handling skills, finding various ways to get people the ball by using different pass routes and run schemes that you can become accustomed to, among other things. What this offseason truly gives him is the point of attack to play within this scheme. Observing some strength gains and a body that clearly indicates he has worked hard at it, coupled with his complete mastery of our offensive playbook to enable him to play as much of a role as feasible. That is his objective.

Despite missing time due to a knee injury in the regular season, Achane finished 11 games with 103 carries for 800 yards and eight touchdowns. Additionally, he scored three touchdowns in his role as a receiver. If the Dolphins could replicate that kind of performance, they would be an even more formidable club.
