After losing to Carson Beck at Georgia in the offseason, former five-star prospect Brock Vandagriff played as a backup during his redshirt sophomore year. With Beck established as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the SEC, Vandagriff moved to Kentucky this winter in hopes of getting a start. However, following the inclusion of a spring portal, Vandagriff might be thrust into another quarterback competition in Lexington.
With the SEC loaded with top-tier quarterback talent, Kentucky will face an uphill battle in 2024 with an inexperienced starter spearheading Bush Hamdan’s system, be it Vandagriff or Gavin Wimsatt starting for Mark Stoops’s Wildcats.
The conference boasts rising stars like Nico Iamaleava at Tennessee and Jackson Arnold at Oklahoma in addition to well-known players like Quinn Ewers, Jalen Milroe, and Beck. The quarterback position will decide the conference champions and SEC participants in the College Football Playoffs since there are so many strong candidates.
