Around the trade block saints CB Marshon Lattimore has accepted deal

Typically, June is a slow month on the NFL schedule. After the conclusion of the second week’s required minicamp and offseason training activities (OTAs), the NFL adjourns for one more break before the start of training camp at the end of July.

But there was an anomaly a few years back. WR Julio Jones was released by the Falcons during the 2021 offseason because they were having severe cap issues. But the Falcons couldn’t afford to absorb Jones’ whole dead money hit in 2021 because Atlanta had only recently signed him to a huge new contract. To trade him, they had to wait until after June 1st, as teams that make cuts or deals after that date only had the dead money from that season left over, with the remainder being carried over to the next season.

Jones was ultimately put up for auction, and the Titans emerged victorious with a second and a fourth-round selection. The NFL saw its liveliest June in a long time. It’s possible that we’ll witness something similar in June, but with a different NFC South team and player: Saints wide receiver Marshon Lattimore.

Although Lattimore isn’t quite as well-known as Jones, he is still a league apart from the players that are often available in June. When he plays at his peak, Lattimore is a genuine No. 1 cornerback, which is becoming increasingly difficult to come by for teams these days. All offseason, the Saints have made a point of downplaying this situation in public, but there are good reasons to believe that a deal for Lattimore is still very much on the table.
