When South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler was chosen by the New Orleans Saints with the No. 150 pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, they got a steal.
The young gunslinger from Phoenix, Arizona, has several amazing qualities that will help the Saints on the gridiron in the future, including his arm talent and his rushing ability.
Not to add, Rattler has encountered his fair share of hardships.
After graduating from Phoenix’s Pinnacle High School, Rattler put on standout performances every week, setting a state record with 11,083 yards and 130 touchdowns in his career.
It was then time for him to begin his college career at Oklahoma. Rattler won multiple awards as a freshman, including the distinction of being the second Sooner quarterback in program history to be named an FWAA Freshman All-American.
For Rattler in Norman, Oklahoma, the possibilities appeared endless, but recently signed freshman Caleb Williams entered the race to challenge him for the starting position in Norman. After all was said and done with the quarterback competition, the Sooner fan base quickly backed the newcomer. Rattler finished his Big 12 Conference career with 39 touchdowns and 4,514 throwing yards.
Rattler made the decision to move to South Carolina as a junior. Due to his amazing, historic performances against elite teams like Tennessee and Clemson, the gifted signal-caller quickly gained the affection of the supporters, establishing South Carolina as a program on the rise. Rattler was ninth in school history with 37 passing touchdowns and fifth in program history with 6,212 passing yards during his tenure as a Gamecock.
The talented Phoenix quarterback is now prepared to leave his mark in black and gold.
