Simon Grayson has spoken about Enzo Maresca’s future, as Chelsea regard the Leicester City manager as a potential successor to Mauricio Pochettino.

Simon Grayson has revealed that Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca will face a difficult decision if offered the head coach position at Chelsea.

The Italian was given his first managerial post in English football by the Foxes last summer, and he had a fantastic first season at the King Power Stadium, helping Leicester win the Championship title with 97 points.

While they struggled near the end of the season, they eventually held their nerve and won the title ahead of Ipswich Town and Leeds United.

In addition to establishing a winning club, Maresca received praise for how his team performed.

There was a strong emphasis on developing from the back and keeping the ball, and the Foxes are a fantastic team to watch under the former Manchester City coach.

Chelsea is interested in Enzo Maresca.
It’s maybe not surprising that Maresca is garnering interest from rival clubs, with rumors saying that Chelsea has identified the 44-year-old as a leading candidate to succeed Mauricio Pochettino.

It is believed that they are hoping to speak with Maresca about the vacancy, and that he is open to negotiations about earning the top post with the Londoners.

The possibility of joining Chelsea is appealing for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, they are a club with a very good group that will compete in Europe next season. Furthermore, they are backed by wealthy owners who have demonstrated a willingness to invest heavily on the team.

However, while it would surely be a step up in terms of club size, there are some risks associated with joining the Blues as their next new manager.

There was reports that Pochettino wanted more say in transactions, and the hierarchy has proven to be harsh, since they frequently change managers.

With that in mind, Simon Grayson told FLW that Maresca would have to think again about making the transition.

“It is a large task, and when you see some of the coaches who have been there for a long time but haven’t been given enough time or opportunities, it makes the job appear more difficult.

“But it is Chelsea, and it will appeal due of the money and expectations. I think he’s done an excellent job at Leicester; he overcame a difficult period, demonstrating his character and ability to handle a little pressure. He learned from Pep and has more experiences.

“It’s a tough decision to leave Leicester, a relatively stable job in the Premier League, with a new level of excitement.

“On paper, Chelsea is a bigger job with higher expectations, but you may not have enough time to achieve your goals or express your style of play and philosophy.

“Only the head coach may make that decision. That will also be true for Kieran McKenna, who had a fantastic season and will be widely praised. “Whether it’s Chelsea or Manchester United.”

Leicester City’s Summer Plans
This is not what Leicester needed ahead of their Premier League comeback, and they will want a swift conclusion, regardless of the outcome.

We know the club has PSR concerns, so it might be a difficult summer with some important decisions to make, and they will have wanted Maresca to be a part of it.

Finally, as Grayson points out, if Chelsea make Maresca their top target, he will face a difficult decision, and Leicester will want more information in the coming days.
