Worst night mare for the wildcats.
Pittsburgh Kentucky’s worst fear is undoubtedly unfolding as the Wildcats are once again acting as props in the making of another tale from the NCAA Tournament. Last year, it was Markquis Nowell and Kansas State; this year, it was Doug Edert and Saint Peter’s; and now, it’s Jack Gohlke and Oakland.
Gohlke, who led all players in the tournament in made 3-pointers going into the game, came off the Golden Grizzlies bench and put on one of the most insane shooting displays we’ve ever witnessed. Thirteen 3-pointers were attempted by him, and he made seven of them with baskets that were banked in, dropping, and being fiercely defended.
He scored 21 points in 16 minutes, and at the half, 14th-seeded Oakland leads No. 3 seed Kentucky 38-35. The Cats under John Calipari, who entered as the top 3-point shooting team in the country, appear tight. They have only made 3 of 11 long shots, and they haven’t yet figured out Gohlke’s lethal shooting or the Grizzlies matchup zone.
Kentucky has twenty minutes to work both out or it will return home after losing its first three NCAA Tournament games.
