One of Florida Atlantic’s top defensive targets in the 2025 class has committed to the Owls: Osceola, Florida, linebacker Robert Lee made his announcement on Tuesday.

Lee rejects offers from numerous schools, including UCF, Coastal Carolina, Kentucky, FIU, and Charlotte, in favor of FAU.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound defensive prospect says his biggest motivation for committing to the Owls was the rapport he developed with the coaches at FAU during his recruitment process.

“What made me choose FAU out of multiple schools was that I just had that connection with the coaching staff, like I just felt it,” Lee stated to Owls247. “It seems like the entire staff loves me so much when I visit them. They’ve gotten to the point where they harass me almost daily. I speak with Coach Herman two or three times a week at the latest.

Lee mentioned that Roc Bellantoni, the defensive coordinator, and Derrick Gibson, the safeties coach, were the two defensive coaches with whom he had the closest relationship throughout his time at FAU.

Bellantoni, who leads the linebackers, will also be Lee’s position coach.

“I recently heard [Bellantoni] say that [FAU] is the ideal environment for me. I think Boca is a good place,” Lee remarked. “I just trusted him; I believed him, so it just pushed me more toward FAU.”

In his junior year, Lee recorded 72 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, five sacks, two interceptions and two pass deflections. He added that FAU likes him as a middle linebacker and “another coach” while he’s on the field.

Lee has visited FAU several times and has an official visit lined up with the Owls from June 7–9.

“[FAU fans] are going to expect big hits, big plays and definitely more winning games with me on the team,” Lee said.
