The actions Leicester City may take to have a fantastic start to the summer window

Leicester City will have a busy summer in the transfer market ahead of their Premier League comeback.

Under Enzo Maresca, the Foxes were promoted back to the top division on their first attempt.

The Italian coach was signed last summer with the intention of leading the club back to the Premier League, which they accomplished while also winning the Championship.

The Leicestershire club was a stable component in the first level for several years before to their 2023 relegation, and will be looking to reestablish themselves as a regular by avoiding relegation in 2025.

Here are some potential transfers Leicester City might make to start the summer season well.

Abdul Fatawu signs
Abdul Fatawu was a great addition to the team last summer, producing six goals and 13 assists during their Championship campaign (all numbers via Fbref).

He joined on loan from Sporting Clube de Portugal and has proven his value amid a €17 (£14.6) million permanent buy clause if the Foxes win promotion.

However, the EFL’s current registration embargo on Leicester could prove to be a stumbling barrier in completing this transfer.

Confirming this deal once and for all will be a relief to fans who want Fatawu to compete for them in the Premier League next season.

Jamie Vardy Resigns
Jamie Vardy’s contract expires this summer, and he could leave Leicester after 12 amazing years at the King Power Stadium.

He has helped Leicester secure promotion twice, win their first FA Cup, and was instrumental in their 2016 Premier League title win, confirming his place as a club legend.

Having someone with that level of experience in the locker room will be extremely beneficial to Maresca’s club next season.

And his efforts in the Championship this year demonstrated that he still has a lot to offer the squad on the pitch, earning him a fresh contract with the Foxes for at least another year.

Harry Souttar is sold.
Harry Souttar joined in January 2023 with a lot of promise, having impressed in the Championship with Stoke City and at the World Cup for Australia.

However, the £15 million spent to sign him has not paid off because he has failed to gain a position in Maresca’s first squad plans.

Last season, the centre-back appeared in just three Championship games, with only one of them being starts.

Selling him this summer would be a wonderful opportunity to raise some much-needed revenue while also clearing some roster space.

Kelechi Iheanacho goes.
Kelechi Iheanacho is another player out of contract this summer, and his exit appears increasingly inevitable.

The forward dropped down the pecking order in 2024, appearing in only four league games so far this year.

Allowing Iheanacho to leave for free is not the ideal business decision, but it is now the better alternative than re-signing him to a new contract.

Leicester have enough attacking alternatives without the Nigerian, and having his hefty earnings removed from their books may improve their precarious financial predicament.
