Dennis Allen, the head coach of the Saints, gave an explanation for Alvin Kamara’s absence from the OTAS.
The NFL’s optional offseason activities, or OTAs, have begun for the New Orleans Saints and every other team. No matter how much coaches would like attendance to be 100%, there’s no guarantee that every player will report for voluntary amateur teams. That’s the scenario that the Saints are presently experiencing.
Although not all of the New Orleans players are present, head coach Dennis Allen has stated that he wishes they were. Alvin Kamara and Marshon Lattimore, two of the Saints’ brightest stars, have both missed games. Their two absences have been significant. Lattimore’s absence follows a flurry of trade speculations during the winter. Kamara’s absence coincides with the implementation of a new offensive scheme by offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.
Dennis Allen had a lot to say on Tuesday regarding Kamara’s absence from practice while the offense is being implemented. He began by stating that it is understandable that Kamara’s absence at this crucial moment could cause problems. Allen continued, though, by saying that he is aware that athletes—especially seasoned ones—have obligations outside of football. In the end, Allen has faith that Kamara is making the necessary preparations for the season.
