See why the kentucky will be unable to face LSU in SEC Tournament opener
The No. 3 seeded Kentucky Wildcats will matchup with No. 11 seeded LSU Wednesday in its SEC Tournament opener at 10:30 a.m. EST in Hoover, Alabama.
The defending national champions LSU knocked off No. 6 seeded Georgia 9-1 in its single-elimination game Tuesday to set up a rematch of last year’s NCAA Tournament Super Regionals with the Wildcats.
Last season, UK seeded 11th nationally traveled to Baton Rouge, seeded 5th nationally for Super Regionals and LSU swept the best of three game set to advance to the College World Series where it went on to become national champions.
Kentucky and LSU also met in the regular season in 2023 as the Cats dropped two out of three during a three-game trip to Baton Rouge. The two teams did not face off in the regular season this year, thus Wednesday’s matchup will be its first agaisnt each other this season.
Things haven’t been nearly as easy for the Tigers this season, who lost their ace Paul Skenes and top bat Dylan Crews last year after they were selected first and second overall in the 2023 MLB Draft.
LSU went 36-2o in regular season play and finished 11th in the SEC with a 13-17 conference record.
The Tigers got off to a slow start, losing each of its first five SEC series, but heated up late in the season, winning four of its final five series, including sweeping Ole Miss in its final regular season series to put itself in play to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament with 13 conference victories.
