The NFL stoped the Denver Broncos from signing a free-agent wide receiver.

Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos are not expected to be postseason candidates in the 2024 NFL season. After releasing Russell Wilson, trading Jerry Jeudy, and allowing Justin Simmons to leave in free agency (if he does not return before signing with another team), they will be a new football team.

However, the team’s future appears to be bright. If Bo Nix reaches his full potential, they will have a new long-term franchise quarterback on their squad.

With that in mind, the Broncos may still try to make a few changes to become a more dangerous football club in 2024. They still have a great group and may be able to surprise some this season.

One specific free agency wide receiver is being mentioned as a possible target for the Broncos. With the controversy surrounding Courtland Sutton’s contract, bringing in another wide receiver may be prudent.

Denver Broncos linked to an intriguing free agent wide receiver.

Travis Wakeman, an NFL analyst for Sporting News, has stated that the Denver Broncos should seriously consider signing former New Orleans Saints standout wide receiver Michael Thomas.

“What made Thomas successful in New Orleans was his ability to find openings on shorter routes.” He had excellent chemistry with Drew Brees, and the two connected at an alarming rate. If Payton wants to replicate it in Denver, a similar relationship between Thomas and Bo Nix is not difficult to imagine.”

Thomas teaming with Payton seems like an excellent move for the Broncos. He may never regain his former superstar status, but he may rejuvenate his career at a lower statistical pace.

Thomas has struggled with injuries in recent years. He has made several publicly disparaging statements about the Saints and how they handled his injuries. Being able to reunite with the coach he trusts the most may help him get back on track.

Thomas would also be given an instant position with the Denver Broncos. Sutton is currently the team’s top wide receiver, followed by Josh Reynolds and Marvin Mims Jr. A healthy Thomas could easily be Nix’s second or third target.

At 31, Thomas should be seeking for a low-cost one-year deal that will allow him to return to the market the following offseason and negotiate a larger contract. He recently completed a 10-game season in 2023. He caught 39 catches for 448 yards and a touchdown, demonstrating that he can still have an impact.

If the Denver Broncos want to make a late-season acquisition to strengthen their offense, they should look no further than Thomas. He’s a low-risk, high-reward signing that won’t cost a fortune.
