Rich Eisen scoffs that Lamar Jackson trails Brock Purdy in the QB Power Rankings because he arrived late for work.
Rich Eisen of the NFL Network criticized Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports for his latest quarterback power rankings, which ranked Lamar Jackson sixth (as mentioned in Last Week’s Late for Work).
The five quarterbacks who were ranked higher than Jackson were Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, and C.J. Stroud of the Houston Texans.
Eisen, a fervent advocate of Purdy, mocked him for being put four places ahead of Jackson.
“Purdy’s my guy, but you gotta be kidding me,” Eisen stated on “The Rich Eisen Show.” “I love him, but you can’t sit here and tell me you’d take him over Lamar Jackson in a game that you’ve got to win right now.”
Jackson trails just Mahomes and Tom Brady in terms of winning percentage (.753) among starting quarterbacks since 1970 (minimum of 50 starts), according to Eisen.
One of Eisen’s co-hosts, T.J. Jefferson, brought up the fact that Jackson was the league MVP twice, something that appears to get overlooked when analysts evaluate quarterbacks. The quarterbacks higher on Benjamin’s ranking than Jackson, aside from Mahomes, have not yet taken home an MVP title.
“It does seem when it comes to MVPs and Lamar it’s like it doesn’t matter as much,” Jefferson stated.
