The Leicester City loanee addresses his future in an end-of-season letter.
The Galatasaray loanee has wished the team luck in the Premier League, having made 29 appearances in all competitions this season, recording two goals and four assists.
Yunus Akgun will not return to Leicester City for the next season, with the winger wishing the team well in the Premier League.
The Galatasaray loanee has thanked City and their supporters for this season and “for making me a better player”. However, it is also a farewell and a recognition that he will not be returning to the King Power Stadium.
“I’d want to thank everyone at the club, including the coaches, my teammates, and the physios, for their assistance, encouragement, and efforts to improve my game. I’m glad to be a part of history. I hope you have a wonderful new season.
It’s hardly surprising that City aren’t pursuing a permanent signing of Yunus from Galatasaray, given that the 23-year-old has never fully adapted to the Championship. He joined the team as a right-sided winger, but Enzo Maresca soon realized that his greatest position was as an offensive midfielder.
However, despite his superb agility, eye for a pass, and endless energy in the press, he struggled to impose himself physically on the game. This resulted in performances in which he was unable to affect the proceedings.
At the end of December, Maresca claimed that Yunus acknowledged to struggle with the Championship’s speed. The manager stated, “Yunus is having some difficulty with the rhythm, most likely because he mentioned that the rhythm in Turkey is a little slow. The game’s tempo is quicker here.
“He’s suffering. I like Yunus and would like to give him more minutes, but he needs to acclimate to English football, which is more physical.”
